Powderhorn Park: A Documentary
A film about Powderhorn Park
We are a team of filmmakers from South Minneapolis making a documentary film about Powderhorn Park, one of the most important community spaces in the Twin Cities area. We started filming in early April 2025, and the plan is to film until April 2026 and hold outdoor screenings in the Summer of 2026. Below is our timeline:
- Start Filming: April 2025
- End Filming: April 2026
- Editing: September 2025 to May 2026
- Promotion for Film: October 2025 through May 2026
- Promotion for Screenings: March 2026 to May 2026
- Screenings: June 2026
The narrative arc of the film is divided along seasonal lines, with each season holding space around one or two seminal events (i.e. May Day in Spring, the Art Fair and others in Summer, the Bare Bones Puppet Show in Autumn, and the Sled Rally in Winter). We follow several local communities that live and play in the park, including punks, activists, artists, immigrants, and a variety of Southside legends and community organizers. We also spend a lot of time filming the beauty of the park itself, from vibrant spring through summer into the autumn and the stillness of winter.
